Braiding Hair Maintenance Tips
1. Prepare your hair. Give yourself several deep conditioning treatments over the week before your hairdo.
2. Keep your head covered with a silk or satin scarf at night.
3. Avoid scratching your scalp or pulling at the braids
4. Don’t get your hair braided to tightly around the edges. If you have to constantly slap your head b/c you’re in pain… then obviously your braids are too tight.
5. Your stylist pulled on your hair too much? You can loosen your braids a little bit by using essential hair growth oils.
6. Washing your hair is always recommended. However, it's more important to remember to dry braids thoroughly. If you leave your braids wet after bathing, then the hair in them can actually rot or mildew over time. Use an absorbent towel to squeeze the water out of your braids before using any styling products on them.
7. Use scalp treatments. No, there's no reason for you to walk around with dry flaky scalp. Consult with your hair stylist to find the perfect scalp oil, treatment, or moisturizer.
